The Mackay A Grade Men's Pennants team travelled to Townsville to compete against teams from The Willows, Townsville and Proserpine.  Although it has been reported that Townsville has been having problems with water, but the team found the condition of the course to be good, especially the greens and surrounds.

The first match we played was against Proserpine where we recorded a 10-1 win. In the afternoon we played the eventual pennant winners - The Willows - where we recorded a 5½ -5½ draw. It all came down to the last match on Sunday against Townsville, our 8 - 3 win not being quite good enough on countback as The Willows annihilated Proserpine in their match with a clean sweep 11-0.

Hence, although we scored the same number of points, The Willows had won 1 more match than we did, and stopped Mackay's 3-year winning streak. Although the team was disappointed at the outcome, they all acknowledged the strength of the team from The Willows, and we were definitely beaten by the better team on the weekend. Congratulations, The Willows -  great team, great playing a well deserved win. But be warned - we don't intend to let you keep it next year.

Although everyone in the team were highly motivated, there were some stand-out performances -  Matthew Spilsbury, Clinton Smith, Calvin Buckton & Greg James all recorded three wins out of three.
