Defending Champions Hold Off All Challenges

 

In perfect golfing weather, defending Champions Matt Spilsbury and Julianne Behan retained their Club Champion titles in exciting finishes in the final round of the We R Golf 2011 Club Championships.

MEN'S CHAMPION - MATT SPILSBURY	WOMEN'S CHAMPION - JULIANNE BEHAN

 

Matt started the day just one shot in front o f Nathan Cole, and was fighting keep the lead in a tense battle until Nathan's unexpected triple bogie on the 14th Hole.  Matt then took advantage of this lapse to finish with a two shot advantage and retain the crown.  This is Matt's fourth jacket since his first win in 2006.

Julianne was trailing Shea Holmes after Round 2, but maintained her steady form under the pressure in the final two rounds, whereas Shae lost a bit of her touch, playing two disappointing rounds to eventually lose to Behan by 9 shots.  Julianne has made it a bit of a habit to win the jacket - this is jacket No 8 since her first win in 1999.

Husband and Wife team Trevor and Yvonne Mallory made the Seniors Championship a family affair. Trevor started with a hard fought 76 on the first day in miserable conditions, and held off all challenges from then on.  Yvonne took a different path - play the waiting game for the first three rounds, then pounce in the final round to snatch the crown from Lorna Forrest by 7 shots.

In the Junior event, Daniel Hurt, after a slow start, played consistently to take the title from 2010 Champion Jack Sambell, and Lauren Blank retained her Junior Girls title for another year.  Jordan Lynch took the Nett Junior Boys title by including two superb sub-par nett rounds in his tournament, leaving an 11 stroke margin to the second placed Mitchell Dwyer. Hazel Martin also played well over the four rounds to take the Girls' Nett title.
